Basically what the title says. It’s a troubling time, and disinformation runs amok. Is there a book that you think gives a good look into the history of the conflict? (I’d love a book as unbiased as possible)

Search this sub and booksuggestions sub. It’s been asked SO MUCH the past few days. Here is my suggestion:

The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Very Short Introduction

*The whole “Very Short Introductions” series, by Oxford University Press, are really great for this sort of thing. Especially if you are starting on your learning journey. As unbiased as they can be. They are just there to lay things out as clear as possible, tell both sides, and give you direction for further reading.

A great book I read in 2021 is The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi. This gives I think a very comprehensive look at the birth of Zionism and the war over the years. This is obviously not an “unbiased” book in that it comes from a perspective of a Palestinian, but I’m going to push back a bit because I think this book is very truthful. Another book that is maybe more unbiased (written by an Israeli writer) is The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappe. This one is a more dry read and focuses entirely on the Nakba, and focuses a lot on communication between Israeli leaders during this. But the Hundred Years’ War is a more broad history so I think better for getting a good understanding til present day, but if you feel like you need convincing of the central claim that Zionism started as a colonial project from a more unbiased source, then I’ll recommend Ilan Pappe’s book. I know it’s hard to convey tone here but I’m truly recommending these as an educational source, not trying to push an agenda, I was also confused years ago when I started to learn. Hopefully these can give you some clarity, or a new perspective.
