I’m new to the world of reading for fun and I’m looking for a new book. My partner has persuaded me to branch out to different genres and story telling styles. I like non-fiction but am now specifically looking for a fiction book. I like thrillers, sci-fi, mind-bending, and vivid stories. What are your favorite fiction books that you would you suggest to a newer reader?

Thriller/Sci fi – dark matter by Blake crouch
I love thrillers by Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley. I recommend them to everyone and I’ve yet to have someone complain!
Neuromancer by William Gibson.
It’s the first of three, and if you like his style, he has several fun trilogies to read.
True Grit by Charles Portis, un-put-down-able.
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, starts with All Systems Red
I resisted reading these for a while bc they’re so beloved my inner hipster refused. But they’re beloved for a reason – they’re fun and full of action and snarky and brilliant
*Men Like Gods* by H.G. Wells. It’s an old sci-fi tale about an English fellow who is teleported into an alternate universe. He encounters a human society that has advanced multiple millennia beyond our own: they’ve mastered their environment and bred citizens of physical perfection whose method of communication bypasses the barrier of language. I found it a fascinating story through which Wells elucidates his conceit of Utopia.
