Hey everyone,
Lately, I’ve found myself in a weird phase where everything I read or watch leaves me feeling underwhelmed. It’s like I’m handing out a mental rating of 3 stars out of 5 to every book and film. They’re not bad, but nothing’s truly gripping me or leaving a lasting impression either.
Has anyone else gone through this? How did you navigate it? Did you find a book, a film, or even a different activity that helped you break the cycle?
Moreover, I read in Spanish, English, and French, which opens up a vast world of literature to me. However, lately, I feel this abundance has become a double-edged sword. When every recommendation (literary prizes, bookstagram, reddit, etc, in 3 languages) is presented as the next must-read, and everything seems interesting, how does one choose?
I’m looking for recommendations or insights!
If it helps, these are my favourite books (in no particular order):
* Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell
* Milkman by Anna Burns
* Our share of night by Mariana Enríquez
* Beloved by Toni Morrison
* On beauty by Zadie Smith
* Normal people by Sally Rooney
* Connemara by Nicolas Mathieu
* Ripe by Sarah Rose Etter
* The most secret memory of men by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr
* The Strangers by Jon Bilbao
* A portable shelter by Kirsty Logan
* Stay with me by Ayobami Adebayo
* Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
* We have always lived in the castle by Shirley Jackson
* Things I don’t want to know by Deborah Levy

Thanks!
