There are a couple of authors that I cannot stand to read, because each time I start one of their books I have a feeling I’m reading a summary of the book itself (or a Reader’s digest version of it, for those old enough). In my case, it’s Nicholas Sparks and Christine Feehan.
What bothers me is that I tried to understand what gives me this impression, but I cannot really pinpoint what it is in the text itself that causes it.
Have you even encountered this? What do you think is the cause? Is it something with the tenses they use? Years have passed and I still wonder.
