Hey folks, I’m looking for fantasy/sci-fi books or series where an advanced civilization has lost much of their tech and knowledge, and transformed into a civilization with only medieval-level tech and society. It can also be a setting where an advanced civilization was wiped out, and a new civilization arose in the same location. It doesn’t have to be set in our world, as long as it has this kind of setting.
Some examples of what I’m looking for (and already watched/read):
Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky – Humanity has colonized planets across the galaxy, but after losing contact with Earth, many of these colonies lost their tech and regressed into the middle ages. “Magic” and “demons” that are present are actually just remnants of long-forgotten tech, like mining robots.
The Miracle Workers by Jack Vance – Same as above, but with more “magic”
Spellmonger by Terry Mancour – Same as above, but with even more “magic”
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells – 800,000 years in the future, humanity has devolved into a race of cannibalistic cavemen.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – Long after a bioweapon wipes out 99% of humanity, chimpanzees evolve into more intelligent beings and take over the world. Some of them begin to wonder about the legends of the ancient race of ‘humans’ that used to rule the world.
**Please do not recommend YA**
