Need some on deck and a current read. Channeling this group as my independent book store fix until I get back home, I feel like I have pretty diverse taste, but under psycho-analysis, I’m probably a simpleton. Some of my recent favorites
Just finished Cibola Burn in the Expanse series. I really liked this one, the last two were meh, but the first was great. Although the 2nd one when they got into the space battles was awesome action and flowed really well, but i put it down and came back to many times. Also really enjoyed the Red Rising Series, Robin Hobb’s stuff, George R.R. Martin and Rothfuss. Tried to get into Wheel of time and couldn’t at that point as well as a lot of other fantasy. Seemed like fantasy without a good story.
I like a lot of Nelson Demille’s stuff. Mainly for the humor of the protagonist. I used to like Lee Child, but I got tired of Reacher and too much false bravado.
Recent reads – Midnight Library (took me back to my days as a philosophy major), Martian and Hail Mary, My Lovely Wife, a lot of Mark Helprin’s stuff, especially A Soldier of the Great War, Stephen King’s Fairy Tale and Dumas Key (still getting through this honestly- I’ve read a lot of king when I was younger- like in my teens and 20s, I’m 50 something now for perspective), Zafron’s Shadow of the Wind. Children of Time. Dune, I am Legend.
I know that’s all over the board.
