When I was a kid back in the 80’s I read a thriller that featured an intricate western conspiracy behind the Iranian revolution of ’79. I don’t remember the book being a masterpiece in literary terms, but the conspiracy theory felt quite novel at the time and even plausible. I’ve later discovered that the book must have been “The Feet of a Snake” by an author called Barry Chubin (his bio listed him as someone who was a speech writer to the Shah and privy to the inner workings and dealings of OPEC). Apparently he wrote another bestseller later in the 80’s where the intrigue included a Russian spy or asset that was about to become elected US president (which sounds ridiculous, as there is no chance of that ever happening, right?).
I suspect the name and bio could be made up, but I sure hope they weren’t. Is anybody familiar with this author, is he the real McCoy?
