I’m a mid-twenty female who is undergoing major life transitions (recently single, new career, new city, totally alone) & I’m looking for an old classic book that would inspire me to continue making something of myself despite internal tribulations or even to find contentment in day to day mundaneness. Any books ringing a bell? I was looking at Jane Eyre for example but there seemed to be mixed reviews. Thank you greatly in advance.

I will add that I enjoy post-apocalyptic & dystopian themes (I’ve already read the Giver) as well but not required
[A Tree Grows in Brooklyn](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/dc5de2f5-b132-4c4c-8e49-8bf46005d5da) by Betty Smith!
Jane Eyre is wonderful and worth a try – I’m all for DNFing books if you don’t connect with them but overlooking something so well written because of reviews would be a shame.
For something with similar themes of transition & perseverance but a bit more lighthearted, you could do the Anne of Green Gables etc books
Middlemarch if you’re looking for classics.
Atlas Shrugged is a 1957 novel about a woman trying to keep a rail-road company going even though the people she counts on are mysteriously disappearing around her.
It’s not that old, but I’ll recommend it again, The Master and Margarita.
Because it’s the coolest book I’ve ever read.
That what you should read.
