I just finished it and loved every word of it, although at points it does feel like Towles is trying to impress. But still…
I have a couple of questions though, which feels like a plot hole but for all I know, it may be a gap of understanding on my part.
>! Why does Tinker’s world fall apart so completely, once he breaks up with Anne. He was still a well trained banker and if nothing else, he could have been a clerk, instead of being a labourer. So why not?!<
>! Likewise, if he was so under Anne’s favour, how come he was free to gallivant across Europe with Eve and even ask her to marry him. That would presuppose some means of his own and if so then well, again, my above question!<
