It’s already been established that TikTok is not the place to get book recommendations but recently I’ve come across videos about people on there who say that they never rate a book lower than 3 stars (if I remember correctly) even if they didn’t enjoy it at all.
They say this is a recognition of the time and effort that goes into writing a book, which is understandable, however I don’t think art that someone has done of their own volition is owed a sort of service charge.
I recognise that TikTok is extremely influential in multiple industries, and its parent company has created a publisher already, but I can’t tell whether this sort of idea would be one to become more popular than it already is. I believe if it does it could be quite damaging (although review sites aren’t the only ways people get book recommendations) and will cause younger readers to become disingenuous in their criticisms towards art.
