My best friend is going through a very difficult time. Her mom is dying of cancer and her husband has just been accused of grooming a minor and fired from his teaching job (Yes, he sucks. No, she probably won’t leave him).
Anyways… I live 1000 miles away and I can’t be there for her like I would like to be so I am sending her a package of things to help get her mind off of life for a little bit. Adult paint by numbers, books, puzzles etc.
We don’t really read the same kind of books so I need help with this one. She typically reads memoirs of celebrities (like Britney or the Queer Eye guys) or books with strong female leads (Whisper Network or Hunger Games). *She likes easy reads.* Not big into romance. She doesn’t care for spice but it’s not a deal-breaker. Not really a fantasy reader but could possibly explore this genre if it’s the right book. She probably has some undiagnosed ADHD so it’s gotta be able to keep her attention throughout.
Obviously we are avoiding anything with cancer, parent death, homelessness, husband losing a job, child s*x abuse, grooming.

I’d recommend The Giver, or maybe get her a book of short stories? Neil Gaiman has a few, and Ray Bradbury has a big collection. Also Neil Gaiman wrote this book called Stardust that’s short, relatively easy to read, is Fantasy but does include quite a few strong female characters.
