I’m really into this kind of stuff, l.f. Celine, Thomas Bernhard, Strindberg (Inferno), obviously Dostoevsky etc. I would though like to read more recent literature, but I always feel the oldies are much better. Any recommendations are welcome though, thanks!!!

It’s not the obvious answer but William Gass’s The Tunnel fits, in a very meta-literary manner with tons of metaphors and wordplay. Yet underneath, it’s there. Some of Nabokov’s lesser popular works have this too.
