Three Musketeers fits this, although it does a run a little raunchy (not explicit in the least, but there is a catty seductress), which is surprising for an old book, but some of it will probably go over the kids’ heads.

Count of Monte Cristo works too, and is less raunchy, but less romantic…from what I remember. I read it 20 years ago!

I know these are old, and some of the language might be unfamiliar to the kids, but Dumas was the ultimate adventure writer and his books are actually really easy to follow along with. They’re very long, but I flew through both- the stories are compelling and they are ultimately a pretty easy read. Probably would be easy to listen to as well.

Edit to add: You could also do the Princess Bride. If you’ve seen the movie, or even if you haven’t, the book is hilarious. Just tell your kids that it is fictional- the beginning is designed to fool you into thinking it is a historical tale, lol.

Along those lines, I listened to this reading of Once on a Time by AA Milne years ago and it is also hilarious and amazing. Make sure you do [THIS](https://librivox.org/once-on-a-time-by-a-a-milne-2/) version, which is dramatized, and not the other, if you go this route.

      Princess Bride

If you can find them, the Doona Books by Anne McCaffrey are kid appropriate (star ship colonists meet aliens that look like cats)

Anne McCaffrey’s Freedom series is also appropriate for kids (female lead but a romance, colonists abducted by aliens, lots of messages about tolerance)
