Hello, I am looking for history books that go into depth on peoples who went from being poor, colonized, or ignored with no cultural or political influence to being major players in the world, both politically and culturally. I’d like the books to also take time to talk about how culture played a role in the rise of these groups. I am specifically interested in the Japanese, Scottish, Romans, English, Germans, Jews, and Chinese. If there are other peoples who you believe fit what I am looking for please recommend them.
