I’ve seen some topics on this general premise, but here goes an updated one.
What books do you consider essential, or greatly informative, of science in the ample sense and humanities, that is, including the social sciences, like history, or non empirical, like math and philosophy?
It would be more interesting if, instead of being about punctual curiosities, they were fundamental readings for a well-rounded scientific formation also readable by non experts in any field.
To begin, I would put The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins, as a good and readable book on genetics. And bell hooks and Paulo Freire as a essential readings in education. Despite the fact I’ve only read snippets, I would also add Foucault for a critical view of psychology and psychiatry.
