I know the original novel, and I thoroughly disliked it. It’s sensationalist with no accuracy/authenticity with bad prose and clumsy plotting.
I’d like something similar, though, preferably an epic.
I have read *Musashi* and *Taiko*, both by Eiji Yoshikawa. And I have his *The Heikē Story* on my shelf.
I’m also ok with non-fiction, so any history books on Feudal Japan would be great too.
What I’m looking for (as you can see from my mini-rant) is competent prose, a decent plot and some level of accuracy if not to history at least to the culture.
