I use a wheelchair and I’m a big reader. I love that disability representation is getting so much more common in books but I feel that main or other important characters using a wheelchair is still rare.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Bonus points for books where the wheelchair use is not a major plot point.

Extra bonus points for books where the wheelchair user remains a wheelchair user and doesn’t have an ending where they recover.

    1. We Are Inevitable by Gayle Forman. The main character has a friend permanently in a wheelchair. I think there’s a subplot about building a ramp to get into the bookstore the main guy works at, but that’s it.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. Frankly, a lot better book than We Are Inevitable, but the main guy’s emotional state after being permanently disabled is the main plot. It has a sad ending.
