I don’t know if I’m maybe a little odd for this, but I really love a book that makes me tear up and cry.
I guess I just enjoy something that really brings out strong emotions.
What was that book for you?
For me it was ‘where the crawdads sing’
(So any suggestions for similar books would ALSO be fabulous)
Thanks everyone 🙂

*Song of Achilles,* for sure
Got kinda close after Wizard and Glass – Stephen King
Amy Harmon’s *What the Wind Knows.*
Flowers for Algernon
Angela’s Ashes, read by the author
Vom Ende der Einsamkeit (End of Loneliness) by Benedict Wells
A child called it
Davita’s Harp by Chaim Potok made me weep in a good way. I highly recommend it.
I don’t know how similar it is as I’ve not read that, only seen the synopsis. Out of my mind by Sharon Draper. About a girl with cerebral palsy. Maybe there are similarities in that she is somewhat isolated and a bit different. She has a strong mind/is determined. Bit of bullying and ableism in it which is what made me upset I think.
God of small things
All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews. I read it five or six years ago and it really made me cry towards the end. It’s about a woman who wants to commit suicide, told from the point of view of her sister. It’s not as depressing as it sounds, she’s a fantastic author, but there were a couple of chapters I was really cut up over.

The Book Thief isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – I have friends who find it unbearably twee, but if you get on with the first few chapters then you should enjoy it. I haven’t read it in a long time but I remember really crying over it.
When breath becomes air
‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ had me in tears in a coffee shop and some nice lady asked if I was ok and if I needed tea. Peak British kindness.
The Women by Kristin Hannah.
Molokai by Alan Brennert.
Norwegian wood made my cry unexpectedly and it wasnt a sob it was a cry.
Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka. It’s about a serial killer but told from the perspectives of the various women in his life, including his mother, foster sister, the detective who find him, and his sister in law. It’s just heartbreaking from so many perspectives and somehow still a page turner.
My most recent cry was *Under The Whispering Door* by T.J. Klune. Loved it!
