Been reading too many series/sagas/trilogy and i am kind of burnt out. Can someone recommend me a one shot book with a good ending (no open ending) nor sequels. I want a good definitive ending. Something not too long to use as a palate clenser before i start the next series on my list.
For reference this are the books i just finished:

    The empyrian

Dragon hearth novel (divided in 21 books)

Broken empire trilogy (prince of thorns and sequel)

    Earthsea saga

The queen thief series (one of the best thing i have read all year)

Ember quarter (ember in the ashes and sequels)

The alchemist (not a series but i know some pll are gonna recommend it so just in case. i already read it)

      T. Kingfisher has a handful of standalone novellas that I think are great palate cleansers (and just fantastic in their own right). TK is an incredible writer and her books have so much charm and humor in them while also being excellent stories.

[*Nettle & Bone*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56179377-nettle-bone) – fantastic dark classic fairy tale vibes, horror elements, fun and snarky and strange and one of my favorite reads of 2023, it’s SO good! 243 pages.

      >After years of seeing her sisters suffer at the hands of an abusive prince, Marra—the shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter—has finally realized that no one is coming to their rescue. No one, except for Marra herself. Seeking help from a powerful gravewitch, Marra is offered the tools to kill a prince—if she can complete three impossible tasks. But, as is the way in tales of princes, witches, and daughters, the impossible is only the beginning. On her quest, Marra is joined by the gravewitch, a reluctant fairy godmother, a strapping former knight, and a chicken possessed by a demon. Together, the five of them intend to be the hand that closes around the throat of the prince and frees Marra’s family and their kingdom from its tyrannous ruler at last.

[*Illuminations*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25895521-illuminations) – charming and whimsical, one of those rare stories that can be read and enjoyed by children and adults alike but never feels childish. 260 pages.

      >Rosa Mandolini knows in her heart that her family are the greatest painters of magical illuminations in the city. But the eccentric Studio Mandolini has fallen on hard times and the future is no longer certain. While trying to help her family, Rosa discovers a strange magical box protected by a painted crow. But when she finds a way to open the box, she accidentally releases the Scarling, a vicious monster determined to destroy the Mandolini family at any cost. With the aid of her former best friend and a painted crow named Payne, it’s up to Rosa to stop the Scarling before it unmakes the magical paintings that keep the city running, and hopefully save her family in the process!

[*Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54369251-a-wizard-s-guide-to-defensive-baking) – another cozy and whimsical fantasy! 306 pages

      >Fourteen-year-old Mona isn’t like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can’t control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt’s bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona’s life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona’s city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona’s worries…
