Are the possibility that one of them committed a crime. I just finished reading Defending Jacob and I’ve also read We Need to Talk About Kevin so I’m looking for books in which a child or a member of a family is accused of crime and everyone around them has to reconcile with the fact, and struggle with, the idea they might have actually done it and maybe even look back on the family history to see if there were any warning signs, etc.
I’ve also read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccolut, and enjoyed the early 2000s feel of the setting (but it’s not a prerequisite)
