I post this for 2 reasons, 1) there’s always something to learn from others, in this sense it’s beyond selfish on my part, giving an opportunity for others to be benefitted by others, and 2) as a chance to express myself.
I see reading as the single most beneficial practice a person can do all by themselves, it’s great to have a communal element where you get help along the way, but i mustn’t be too sidetracked with the “helps” and to keep in mind that the goods is in the books themselves, not in the Introductions, Prefaces and footnotes, although those can clarify the text, it’s the text itself and your relation to it that matters.
I don’t have the healthiest self image, but one thing i am proud of is my tastes, my interests, and in regards to books it may be seen as somewhat eclectic, or diverse. One thing i always look for in no matter what kind of book is wisdom. In life there is problems upon problems, when one is honest with themselves, they can see that the world and living in it is fraught with potential peril. Books give that person guidance, counsel, and inspiration.
My approach is informed intrinsically by using my kindle, as it then becomes easy to read many books at a time, i do it in an extreme way where hundreds are in the mix, i realize this isn’t the right way, that there should be more focus, but on the other hand it’s a wild and crazy exploration technique, at any time i will allow myself to dwell longer on certain books, and it’s this freedom to do whatever i darn well please that makes this approach indispensable for me.
Specific areas i’m most interested in is all things ancient Greece and Rome, the medieval period, Christianity, lyrical non-abstract philosophy, classics, and modern classics, and supplemental material on whichever i want to go deeper into.
Life won’t go on forever, 2024 is the year i’m devoting to reading, i spend too much time online, but it’s good to have a little bit of a chance to express oneself, but more and more time needs to be set aside to reading.
Thank you in advance for any reading testimonials, encourage one another, and make the world brighter by increased empathy and intelligence.
