We just finished listening to the rithmatist while commuting. By the end the kids were asking to drive longer so they could hear more of the story. Looking for good narration and engaging stories of interest to boys. Beyond that no limit on suggestions. Appreciate the advice.

They have already read hunger games, Harry potter, ready player one, a bunch of Rick Riordan.

They have watched enders game and are not interested in reading it.

I teach 4th grade and every year I read aloud Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. You could hear a pin drop in my classroom they are that engaged in the story. I read other books too, but year after year this is the favorite.

I personally enjoyed the audiobook narration of The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman.

    2. Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix

      Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo

Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians also by Brandon Sanderson

I highly recommend the radio theater versions of the Chronicles of Narnia or Secret Garden by Focus on the Family (unfortunately). They are truly excellent and were staples of my childhood. I think they are free with Apple Music.

Loved the rithmatist! Sanderson also has the skyward series which is a similar grade level.

I’d also recommend the bartimeaus trilogy by Jonathan stroud or the series of unfortunate events by Lemony Snicket. I was obsessed with both of them as a kid.
