I couldn’t have picked better. I devoured Fahrenheit 451 and quickly moved on to the Martian Chronicles. I know it’s not exactly new to say how incredible of an author he is, but holy shit. The Martian Chronicles in particular is really sitting with me. I missed the haunting feelings that books can leave you with. I haven’t read in years and I’m so glad I started again, even though it’s audiobooks. I wear ear protection all day at work, it’s easy to wear headphones under them and “read” all day.

To say it’s a timeless classic is an understatement. It doesnt matter that we now know that Mars looks nothing like what he described, I can still so clearly feel every bit of it. I still mourned this civilization of crystals and canals. I’m most haunted by Spender turning on his captain and crew because of how fundamentally wrong it was. And the captain of 16 who were slaughtered in the night by martians pretending to be their loved ones.

Where should I go from here? I was planning on continuing right into October Country, but what other authors should I check out next? I’m very into the mid century sci fi and their intense feelings about rapid technological advancements right now. Asimov is an obvious choice, but who else? TIA!

I copy pasted and searched your post in Thought Portals and the most similar thought was ‘The stories in the books seem to quiet the chaos in my soul’. It’s a really cool site but clearly there’s not enough thoughts on there to be useful every time. It’s at https://thoughtportals.com
