Toddler of what age? Are you talking about board books? Here is a hood mix of both board and paper books. Ones my kids have really liked even my childhood favorites (Munsch).

Dr Seues is always a classic choice and they have shortened board book versions.

Robert Munsch can never steer you wrong.

Grandmasaurus books are super cute and teach you dinosaurs that are not just t Rex.

Hair Love by Mathew A. Cherry is a great book about appreciating your hair types. There is even an animation of the story.

    6. Anything by Sandra Boynton.

The Little Blue Truck series is another favorite. As well as the “Bear Snores On” series.

The Llama Llama series has a few great simple toddler books, and of course the ones for older kids are great too. “Llama Llama, Red Pajama” is a classic.

The “Mini Myths” series is a fun one that does a play on classic mythology stories to tell great lessons for littles. (“Be Patient, Pandora”, “Play Nice, Hercules”).

And this might be a weird one, but my child’s favorite as a toddler was “Chu’s Day” by Neil Gaiman!

    7. But No Elephants is a banger. Plot synopsis:

There’s this granny who is lonely, and there’s an animal salesman who cannot get rid of his animals. So the animal salesman keeps showing up to Granny’s house, telling her she should buy a woodpecker, then a turtle, then a horse, et cetera. And every time, granny says “fine, I’ll buy this one, but NO ELEPHANTS!”

So anyway, eventually Granny has bought all of the animals EXCEPT for the elephant. So the animal salesman just leaves the elephant outside of her house and goes south. Then winter comes, and Granny still won’t let the elephant in.

Then the elephant cries, so eventually granny lets the elephant in. And he breaks through the floorboards and eats all their food!! Oh no!!

Everyone is mad at the elephant, but then the elephant stands up, and he WALKS THE ENTIRE HOUSE down to Florida. Then the book ends with Granny and all the animals sipping tequila sunrises on the beach.

This book ROCKS. It’s got animals, the moral is to be kind to all creatures (great and small), the art is so cute, and every kid loves grandmothers!! Definitely worth reading!

    10. Any variation on the Tiddalik story. It’s an indigenous Australian “Dreamtime” story and has been adapted several times.

Tiddalik is a frog. A very large, very thirsty frog. He gets greedy, drinks **all** of the water in the world so that he basically sloshes around when he moves, and all of the other animals realise they might have a problem. If they want to get the water back, they’re going to have to make Tiddalik laugh…
