I’m doing some specific research on the history of Japan. At the moment I want to research on what life was like for Europeans/Americans living in Japan during pre-modern era. My research so far is limited to Wikipedia and a few Internet articles, which do not provide me with enough info I need. I know Westerners were confined in specific areas and only specific traders were allowed in the country, but thats about it. What I want is a book that goes into details about how a typical Westerner lived in the country, how they interacted with the locals, their daily routines… basically something that will paint a detailed picture of a typical Westerner in Japan. Is there any book like that?
