I just finished “The View from Alameda Island” by Robyn Carr and it really scratched an itch for me. The book is fiction and centers around a woman named Lauren who leaves her abusive husband in her mid-40’s after decades of abuse and sets to work restarting her life and healing.
The book goes through all the complexities of abuse, family relationships (especially her daughters and their reactions to the divorce of their parents) but is also so hopeful despite the dark themes.
I was rooting so hard for Lauren and I’m searching for something in the same vein in a new book! It doesn’t need to be the exact same plot but something similar would be appreciated!

Fall of the Guardians by Vanessa White is a book based on real-life about a woman who got sent to a cult-run boarding school and what she went through, including the school prostituting out the girls, her escape and how they brought everyone back together after 30 years.

The Untouchable by Gem J Lambert is a book about abuse, violence, hope, and retribution. Very dark, but with a beautiful end.
