    I am looking to take up reading again and I am finding it hard to filter through the garbage when I go to bookshops, so I am turning to trusted Redditors for your kind opinions. Below are some of my favourite books. I am a fan of cult classics, and books that make me think. I could bear a love story if it makes me think (e.g. Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being).

    * Catch-22
    * The Catcher in the Rye
    * The Alchemist
    * To Kill a Mockingbird
    * Fight Club
    * The Old Man and the Sea
    * When Nietzsche Wept
    * The Girl with the Louding Voice

      No one can ever go wrong with *East of Eden*, if you haven’t read that yet. Simple and complex, achingly beautiful and ugly, mournful yet triumphant.
