I just finished The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum, and it was incredibly dark. I’ve read many horror novels and listened to a lot of true crime, so I didn’t think it would phase me. I was wrong. Now I need something happy that will give me the warm and fuzzies, and make me feel like humanity is worth saving. No real preferences except I’d like something on the shorter side if possible.

How about The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna?
I just went through this and picked up “Garden Spells” by Sarah Addison Allen and it was perfect! A magical realism with romance aspects. Medium pacing so it wasn’t boring, but it was relaxing and fun and calm and so enjoyable. It’s on the short side (300 pages). There is a little suspense but it has a happy ending and overall the “suspense” was barely part of it in my opinion.
Reading this felt like taking a long, deep breath and I felt so happy and calm during/after!
