Pref not US types. UK I find more my thing.
I have enjoyed:
JD Kirks DCI Logan books but Not Stuart MacBrides
Tim Sullivans DS Cross – with the quirky DS
Tana French, most of hers, not all of which involved a cop as POV
Jane Harper, again not all had cop as POV
RD Wingfields Frost books (Yes even if the sexism was a bit old school nasty)
Ann Cleeves Vera books

Did not like:
Ian Rankin (just boring), Michael Connolly, James Oswald, Paterson Ian Cross books

I guess what I don’t like much is the Cop must have some trauma, divorce, drinking problem, whatever they angst about all through the book.
I don’t want POV from some sicko killer all the time either (Silence of The Lambs type),
no gun waving hardboiled PIs, esp US ones.
I did like Frenchs characters, and Cleeves. JD Kirk had humour too, so did MacBride but I found his got sillier as they went on until it was too silly.
They don’t have to be always from cop POV either, as certain of Jane Harpers weren’t. (The Survivors for instance)
And I want to stick with modern, no Sherlock Holmes or older stuff.
And no gardeners, priests, nuns, or little old ladies solving crimes while cops bumble around confused. I prefer a bit more realistic.
And I have searched some of the older suggestions here. So is this too much to ask?
