I’ve had a guilty adoration for the Clan of the Cave Bear series (Earth’s Children) by Jean M Auel my entire life and I’m fascinated with the time period she describes. I really love the long descriptions of the landscapes, the forests and glaciers and valleys, and the in-depth description of surviving these environments. I love the way she describes every plant and its uses, how to tan a hide and cook and hunt and knap flint, as well as the dynamics of those early communities and religions.
I’m not such a big fan of the cheesy romance or the variable writing quality (seriously the last book in the series is sooo bad).
I’m looking for a book that scratches this same itch, that makes me feel like i’m really there, freezing my ass off in winter and having to forage every single thing I eat among other early humans. Does such a thing exist? Looking for books like Earth’s Children tends to bring up a million knock off ‘caveman romance’ novels that I’m not interested in at all.
