I’m not really sure how to describe what I’m looking for but it’s a trope I’ve seen in a few books. The best examples I can give would be the Shadowhunters series or Romeo and Juliet. Like, ancient families with super complex family trees that are connected and clash/have alliances. Preferably something where the family dynamics are at the forefront of the story, since they tend to often be a backdrop. Open to any genres 🙂

Maybe try The Family Game by Catherine Steadman
Stendahl’s The Charterhouse of Parma is wonderful for that. Amazing description of Waterloo as well (Stendahl was a veteran of the Napoleonic wars).
