I’ve read all of the Douglas Adams I can get my hands on—the same with Terry Pratchett as his humour is a lot like Adams’. However, I am now seeking another series or author who has a similar writing style.

I like the way Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy made me wonder, feel, anticipate, and love while also making me question what the hell is going to possibly happen next. The world building for the universe and the characters were insanely cool too. I didn’t like Terry Pratchett’s huge line of Discworld stories inasmuch as Hitchhiker’s because it was not as spacey or wildly out there but the writing was still very good.

So I guess my desire for a recommendation might be very complex. Like Adams’ and Pratchett’s writing, but the setting and players moreso like Hitchhiker’s.

    Any ideas?

I might not ever find something like Hitchiker’s though and I’ll have to come to terms with that on my own.

    1. He’s unique, but try Kurt Vonnegut, like *Breakfast of Champions*, or Joseph Heller’s *Catch-22*?

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore.

This book was suggested in a very similar post about Douglas Adams, and I gave it a go. Their styles are quite similar and the deadpan delivery of the funny stuff is similar as well. Both books had me laughing in the same kind of way.

The subject matter is different, but the character development, world building, and beautifully crafted story tracks between both books. I consider them to be very much alike and equally enjoyable.

    3. The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz is a weird, funny, politically relevant sci-fi book & it’s clear the author had a lot of fun writing it, but it’s not as snarky as Adams & Pratchett I think, so ymmv
