It doesn’t have to be amazing or expert level poetic, but I do love the type of writing that appears in adult fantasy like The Atlas Six and dark academia. I find that I don’t mind YA if the writing is good or the characters are more mature, I mean yes they are teenage characters but being completely immature or making too many dumb choices when being branded as super smart aren’t my cup of tea. I recently read some of Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter, and the cringe writing and immature FMC took me out of what I was sure I would love, romance movies and a cliche trope romcoms are my jam sometimes! Any recommendations welcome, even popular books!

P.S. though not Fourth Wing Series is not YA, it really does read YA for me, so I’m out on that one lol.

The Night Circus and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern are both absolutely beautifully written. They’re technically ‘new adult’, which is the same genre as Fourth Wing. If you’re looking for the same sort of fast-paced plot as YA novels with more mature characters, new adult is probably right up your alley. Some other good fantasy examples, although not explicitly romance, are Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
