I’m reading We Both Laughed in Pleasure by Lou Sullivan, and aside from learning about Lou’s life I’m also enjoying being immersed in a 70s social setting. It’s interesting how differently people interacted back then, how it was so normal to just chat with strangers in person, and how dating worked before cell phones.
It’s been a nice escape from reality so I’m wondering if anyone here has more diary/journal/autobiographical recommendations that detail someone’s regular life from any time period more than 30ish years ago.
I also really enjoyed Just Kids by Patti Smith.

Oh you should definitely read David Sedaris’s diaries. Theft By Finding is the first set, they’re in that realm you describe.
