I’ve always really been into fantasy books that take place during Arthurian times. There’s a kind of romanticism that I really enjoy about them. That being said I’ve never actually read any of the literature that surrounds King Arthur and his knights and I wouldn’t know where to start. Could anyone recommend any books or stories that I should start with? I know it’s a dense subject, and would appreciate any and all help!

*Le Morte D’Arthur,* volumes [one](https://www.amazon.com/Morte-DArthur-Penguin-English-Library/dp/0140430431/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2ZTS71BB0MKTK&keywords=l%27morte+d%27arthur&qid=1697550395&sprefix=l%27morte+de+arthur%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-1) and [two](https://www.amazon.com/Morte-dArthur-Penguin-Classics/dp/014043044X/ref=d_m_crc_dp_lf_d_t1_sccl_2_1/130-5163213-3750640?pd_rd_w=KcEw7&content-id=amzn1.sym.76a0b561-a7b4-41dc-9467-a85a2fa27c1c&pf_rd_p=76a0b561-a7b4-41dc-9467-a85a2fa27c1c&pf_rd_r=E3MABPWCNQAH84AAXGV4&pd_rd_wg=mpvoF&pd_rd_r=1bc7cb48-b023-40cd-87ee-414306f195d0&pd_rd_i=014043044X&psc=1) by Thomas Malory. Written in 1485, it’s “a 15th-century Middle English prose reworking by Sir Thomas Malory of tales about the legendary King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Merlin and the Knights of the Round Table, along with their respective folklore.”
Once and Future King by TH White is the basis for most common retellings. It is in mostly modern prose.
King Arthur and his knights by Howard Plye is going to be a middle ground between a new reworking like Once and Future King and a collection of the older stories.
If you have a library and don’t mind a long look at it try Great Courses King Arthur. Your library might have it on CD or via Hoopla.
