    1. I am hoping that AI is used for talent discovery. Then my genius will be discovered. Good riddance to literary agents!

    2. Plagiarism existed before automation of plagiarism. So this isn’t new. It’s just on full-auto now.

      You can argue that AI systems don’t plagiarize, but you’d be wrong.

      If the prompt interface allows you to add “in the style of <AUTHOR NAME>” and it returns a pastiche of that author’s style, then the machine was clearly designed to infringe on copyright. (Otherwise why would it support being able to take an author’s name and return writing in their style?)

      That said, if you use these tools without trying to emulate other authors, is it plagiarism? They are just picking the most relevant next word. That is literally all they are doing. Is that plagiarism? I don’t know.

      They were certainly trained on a bunch of books that they had no rights to train on, so maybe just being the fruit of the poisoned tree is enough.
