The hype around it led me to read it. I was expecting some good stuff and a nuanced take on the situation. But it actually felt so boring and idk dramatised(?)
It felt like a book made to be adapted into a movie.
I did not get enough exposition and background on the situation as I would have liked to have gotten. It felt more like just a setting to tell the story in. And the story itself wasn’t that interesting I felt.
Over-dramatised plot and story. Felt like it actually took away from the gravitas of the state of affairs in Afghanistan that the book wanted u to sympathise with or atleast understand. And in my case, it even took away from the story of Amir itself that I did not even feel a thing.
And I DO NOT get the love for it.
It feels like a modern lit just has to be sufficiently written and sad enough to somehow make u cry to become a bestseller and ‘one of the best books ever’.
