    I just finished it. It was published in 2016 and reads like a canary in coal mine considering what has happened since the pandemic to the housing market. But I also had the weird feeling the whole time I was reading, that this could be set in the era of company camps in Appalachia if you just changed the style of speaking and references to modern things. It read like something I already knew and that I wasn’t surprised by.

    1. I really liked how >!we as readers don’t find out until the very end that he was living alongside the people he was writing about. It made it much more impactful, I thought.!<
