So, my niece is around the age of 13 and she’s into Colleen Hover, but I don’t feel comfortable with getting her one them for Christmas. Is there a type of book that has the Colleen Hoover vibe but is appropriate for a 13 year old?
A gift card so she can pick out what she would like to read.

Ive never read Colleen Hoover, but here are a few I’d feel comfortable giving to a 13 year old who’s into literature:
* The Light Pirate – Lily Brooks-Dalton
* Remarkably Bright Creatures – Shelby van Pelt
* The Maid – Nita Prose
* The Last Thing He Told Me – Laura Dave
* Station Eleven – Emily St. John Mandel

My friend’a daughter is that age and loves the Lane Winslow mysteries by Iona Wishaw.

Agree with the Jenny Hahn suggestion, also books by Maureen Goo, Becky Albertalli, Elise Bryant, Sophie Gonzales, and Morgan Mattson. E. Lockhart’s Boyfriend List books, Brandy Colbert’s The Voting Booth, and Linda Urban’s Talk Santa to Me.
Perhaps some YA mystery as well? The Agathas, Maureen Johnson’s Truly Devious, A Study in Charlotte.

If it’s the drama/thriller side of the books that she enjoys, she might like Cat Clarke’s books. [‘Torn’](https://www.waterstones.com/book/torn/cat-clarke/9780857382054) could be a good place to start.
