Hi all! Hope you’re well? I’m looking for a historical novel based in the south. My daughter and I are from Ireland a doing a road trip there next year so I’m getting my feels. I’ve been doing some very heavy reading recently( 12 years a slave, The Invention of Wings, To Kill a Mockingbird etc) so I’d like something a little lighter. I’ve read Gone With the Wind, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Midnight in the Garden so anything else you can recommend I’d appreciate greatly 🥰

Try some Eudora Welty and Truman Capote. Dill in To Kill A Mockingbird is based on Capote. He and Lee met in childhood. She was instrumental in researching In Cold Blood for Capote (not a light read and not a Southern story).
Flannery O’Connor is great also.
Dispatches from Pluto
Deepest South of All
Both by Richard Grant if you don’t mind some non fiction.
Gotta do at least one Faulker!
Id recommend Sound and Fury or Absalom Absalom!
