My taste in books has changed as I’ve gotten older and I have less patience with detailed descriptions and scene setting. I started writing plays ten years ago and perhaps that has influenced me, but I prefer a story that is told mostly through dialogue. There was a crime writer years ago named George V. Higgins who wrote this way. His most famous book was “The Friends Of Eddie Coyle,” which was made into a film starring Robert Mitchum. The book is about 90 percent dialogue and I enjoyed it but was never able to find other authors who wrote that way. Can anyone tell me if there are authors out there today who tell stories mostly through dialogue? Or perhaps genres where that is common? Thanks in advance.
