Hi all! As stated above I’m looking for books written by authors that are apart of minority communities (ie: authors of color, lbtq+ authors, authors w/disabilities mental or physical, women of color, religious minorities, etc.).

I’m looking for any good book that would fall under the speculative fiction category, so that would include anything that deals with things that don’t exist in our real world. examples include: magic, the supernatural, aliens, extreme technological advancement on earth, etc.

Genre-wise I’m open to anything: political intrigue, thrillers, romance you name it. I only ask there to be little to no smut.

Furthermore, I’d highly prefer newer books (or at the very least books w/authors who are still alive & writing) and I’d really love if these were from little known/up-and-coming authors that deserve more attention!

Phew! That was a lot, any help would be appreciated! Sorry to be so specific, I’m looking to start a section in my school’s literary magazine that highlights minority authors and could use help finding some. Indie published books are totally fine too!

    1. The City in the Middle of the Night by Charlie Jane Anders (sci-fi by a trans author)

The Honeys by Ryan La Sala (horror by a queer author)

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (sci-fi by a queer author)

Jackal by Erin Adams (horror by a WOC author)

***Pym*** **(2011) by Mat Johnson** – A satirical adventure novel that follows the journey of a mixed-race protagonist named Chris Jaynes who sets out on an expedition to find the lost civilization of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket.”

    3. The Murderbot Diaries or Witch King would both fit well, the author, Martha Wells, is neurodivergent. (no smut at all in these, and lots of queer main and side characters in her books overall)
