I’d love some suggestions for books that have likeable characters and which are spooky, but not too scary or gory. The scariness should be mostly atmospheric or implied. Crime solving can be an aspect, but it doesn’t have to be. I’d prefer no or only slightly supernatural elements with the exception of ghosts, which are fine (also no fantasy or science fiction). It can be a little scarier if there’s a comic relief or breaks between the scary stuff, if that makes sense. I’d also prefer more contemporary novels, but I’m not necessarily ruling out older books if they tick all the other boxes. I would really appreciate any suggestions because I know this is extremely specific and I’m having a super hard time finding what I’m looking for through google. Thank you!! 🙂
