Lessons in Chemistry can be the worst book I’ve ever read and unfortunately, I had to finish it for my book club!
When did we stop writing characters that happened to be women and start writing characters their whole story evolved based on their sex.
I’m pretty sure AI wrote this book. It is shallow and a collection of one-dimensional caricatoric characters. I’m so glad that I purchased a second hand instead of pouring money into the pockets of these sorts of people who want to get on a wave to make some money, while all they are doing is hurting the real people who suffered from oppression with their ignorance.
If you want to do something for feminism, the least is to study what you are talking about. Throwing around arbitrary social messages and not much correct chemistry facts, won’t help anyone. If just one single girl is inspired by this book, to be this rude, arrogant, tactless, and self-centered, it has done it harm.
Don’t get me wrong. I am a feminist chemist atheist female who grew up in a religious country where women are oppressed!!! and yet I don’t allow myself to disrespect housewives and believers the way heroin(!) in this book does. It is just a cash grab for woke feminism.

Fellow feminists, are we really going to fight misogyny with misandry?

It sounds like it will inspire you to have some interesting book club conversations. The nice thing about reading something you don’t believe in is that it clarifies your own feelings on the topic by presenting a point of view for you to set yourself against.
