I grew up a pretty boring life. Have been around predominantly white people all my life. Would love to say I’m going to travel the world some day and experience all the different places and cultures, but I can’t wait for one day.
So what is your best suggestion for books about the world, life, and cultures, etc.
Thank you🤙🏼

I think a great way to vicariously experience Central and South America is to read the books of the so-called Latin American Boom & precursors.
Mario Vargas Llosa, Julio Cortazar, Miguel Angel Asturias, Jose Donoso, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Alejo Carpentier, Jorge Luis Borges, Juan Rulfo, Clarice Lispecter, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Carlos Fuentes, and others are all worth your time.
For an overview this page is a reasonable start:

I really loved Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, it’s set in early 20th century and is a beautiful book about a Korean family’s immigration to Japan.
One of my favourite books to learn about new cultures was From Here to Eternity by Caitlin Dougherty, which is an exploration of death and funeral practices from across the world. It’s not as dark and sad as you’d think, it’s funny and interesting and really introspective.
