I know I’m not alone in this but social media has completely corrupted my attention span and for the past couple of years I’ve been unable to sit down and finish ANY book. Which has been really depressing because I had always been a bookworm.

I finally broke the spell with a very unlikely candidate I just casually picked up in an Airbnb I visited recently: **”Lucy by the Sea” by Elizabeth Strout.**

I’m not even here to endorse this book because it’s certainly not for everyone and I’m not sure I could sell it. It’s about an older woman going through the COVID-19 pandemic with her ex-husband in Maine. The plot is thin, not much happens, and there’s a pervasive sadness to it.

But *something* about Strout’s writing tugged me along consistently and kept me turning the pages. It was almost like entering a meditative state.

I haven’t read any of her other books but seems like I should try to keep this trend going. Of her collection, what do you all suggest I try next? I feel like “Olive Kitteredge” is the most popular, right, but not sure if that’s what I should grab.
