While this feeling is by no means limited to these two games, both of them are great examples of it. It’s hard to put into specific words, but it’s one of my favorite things to experience. Maybe overwhelming, yet optimistic, sadness? Something that leaves a big hole in your heart, but with the knowledge that there’s light at the end of the tunnel? Bands like Sigur Rós and Godspeed You! Black Emperor evoked similar feelings.
I haven’t read a whole lot since middle school, so sorry for not having any literary examples. I don’t have any particular preference when it comes to genre, but maybe something with a bit of a mystical world or atmosphere (doesn’t have to be a fantasy).
And to be clear here, I’m NOT directly asking for books similar to those two games. I’m asking for stuff that can evoke the feeling I described above. Sorry if this is an obtuse and poorly explained request.
