I like books with a lot of between-the-lines stuff, where there’s a surface level interaction going on between two people, but then there’s also the deeper level of what’s going on. Virginia Woolf’s *To the Lighthouse* is an example.
And/or, lyrical prose/descriptions of human nature or conflict. Marilynne Robinson’s *Housekeeping* was beautiful, and so are Paul Harding’s books *Tinkers* and *Enon.*
