Just finished this one today! I’ve read some decent books by her and was fairly excited to read this one.
However it really fell short for me. How am I supposed to believe that April and Hannah are best friends when every scene with April in it, she’s acting like a shit person? Aside from the author repeatedly stating that they were best friends, there’s no evidence of it. I could understand this if Hannah were more insecure or something and so she tolerated April’s behavior in order to keep a friend, but no. There’s no real relationship development there, and the entire premise of the novel is based off of Hannah’s friendship with her—which doesn’t make sense.
The remaining characters were developed well and I enjoy the academic setting. The author did do a good job casting doubt on each of the characters.
Overall, I give it a solid 3/5
