I read this story half an hour ago and been thinking about it since. It’s so good. It’s been on my mind since I read it but I can’t seem to form an opinion about it. I can’t even seem to have a reaction.
The people who walked away, I guess they wanted to help the child, but doing that would mean forsaking the happiness of the Omelas, so they just left, not wanting any part in the guilt. They thought living in misery was better than living with guilt, but I guess they’ll feel guilty anyway.
But could it really be called happiness? I guess it is one of those situations where a sacrifice is required to ensure greater good and all.
